Since the final establishment of the reservation system in 1929, the Mapuche society, having come into contact with the Chilean society, has had to accept the continuous process of profound changes within itself. These changes, in terms of Mapuche culture, mean decoupling from the traditional norms of social behavior. The reason for this phenomenon lies not only in the subordination of the modern Mapuche society to the national social structure in Chile, but also in the awareness of so many internally different Mapuche peoples in Chilean society.
