To investigate the expression of PTMA in transitional cell carcinoma of the bladder and its relationship with the clinicopathological features of bladder cancer. Methods: 96 cases of bladder transitional cell carcinoma specimens and 10 cases of adjacent normal bladder tissue samples were selected. Immunohistochemistry was used to detect the expression of PTMA protein in bladder cancer and adjacent normal tissues. There were 51 cases of non-muscular invasive carcinoma and 45 cases of myometrial invasive carcinoma in cancerous specimens, 57 cases of single tumor and 39 cases of multiple tumors, G122 cases, G231 cases and G343 cases, and non-muscle invasive carcinoma 29 Cases, recurrence in 22 cases. Results: With the increase of pathological grade and clinical stage, the relative expression of PTMA increased gradually. The positive rates of PTMA protein expression in G1, G2 and G3 were 13.6%, 32.3% and 62.8%, respectively, with statistical significance (P <0.05). No normal bladder tissue PTMA protein expression. The positive rates of PTMA protein expression in non-muscle invasive tumors and myometrial invasive tumors were 37.3% and 77.8%, respectively, with statistical significance (P = 0.0002). The positive rates of PTMA protein in recurrence group and non-recurrence group were 68.2% and 31.0% respectively in non-muscle invasive bladder cancer at follow-up of 12 to 60 months. The difference was statistically significant (P <0.001). Conclusion: Detecting PTMA in bladder transitional cell carcinoma can be helpful to the diagnosis and evaluation of bladder cancer. The high expression of PTMA protein is associated with the malignancy and prognosis of bladder urothelial carcinoma.
