保山、施甸位于澜沦江以西,怒江以东地区,本区石炭纪古动物群的性质和古动物地理区的位置问题早已引起人们的注意。Cowper Reed(1927)记述过产自本区的 Sipho- nophyllia cf.caninoides(Sibly),Palaeosmilia 等西欧下石炭统常见的珊瑚化石。王鸿祯 (1945)讨论过本区石炭系的划分、对比,并明确指出,英国 Caninia-Zaphrentis 带的重要分子到达这里,与华南相较,本区石炭纪珊瑚动物群具有特殊性。
Baoshan and Shidian are located west of Lanjiang River and east of Nu River. The nature of the Carboniferous ancient fauna in this area and the location of the ancient animal geographical area have long drawn people’s attention. Cowper Reed (1927) describes the common coral fossils of Western Europe from Sipho-nophyllia cf.caninoides (Sibly), Palaeosmilia, which originated from this region. Wang Hongzhen (1945) discussed the division and contrast of the Carboniferous in this area and made it clear that important members of the Caninia-Zaphrentis belt in the United Kingdom arrived here. Compared with South China, the Carboniferous coral fauna in this area is peculiar.
