1917年秋季的一天,北京大学西斋丙字12号宿舍里,后来成了著名历史学家的顾颉刚,与后来当过北京大学代理校长的傅斯年正在商谈,要不要将一个叫胡适的新教授从北大哲学系的讲台上赶走。两人虽住在同一间宿舍,却不是一个系的,顾是哲学系,傅是中文系。这一年顾24岁,傅21岁,同是二年级学生。他们不知道他们后来的成就,更不会知道他们此刻商谈的事情,将决定北京大学学术史上一个重要的时期。
One day in the autumn of 1917, Gu Xigang, a famous historian in Dorm No. 12 at Peking University, was negotiating with Fu Si-nian, later acting president of Peking University. Or should a new professor named Hu Shi Peking University Philosophy Department of the podium to get rid of. Although both live in the same dormitory, but not a department, Gu is a Department of Philosophy, Fu is the Department of Chinese. This year Gu 24 years old, Fu 21 years old, with the sophomores. They do not know their later achievements, but do not know what they are talking about right now, and will decide an important period in Peking University’s academic history.
