当本刊第五期与广大读者见面的时侯,正值图书馆界的同仁与全国人民一道,沉浸在节日的喜悦中,为伟大共和国四十年的成就而欢呼雀跃之际,本刊谨向工作在图书馆战线的目睹了我国图书馆事业沧桑变化的老专家、老教授、老馆员和正为我们共同的事业奋力拚搏的新一代朋友,向图书馆界全体同志,致以节日的良好祝愿,祝贺大家在发展新中国图书馆事业中通过不懈努力所取得的卓越成绩。四十年的巨大变迁有目共睹,四十年的辉煌业绩举世公认。四十年前,共和国图书馆事业面临的是一个落后、分散、脆弱的现实。那时,不要说一般的中小城市见不到一所象样的图书馆,就是有的省会甚至连省馆都没有,更不用说工会图书馆、乡镇图书馆等基层图书馆
