凯特·肖邦小说中的女性形象总体上可分为三类:第一类女性要么挣脱贤妻良母的束缚,要么远离婚姻的求索,追求经济与精神的独立;第二类女性以《暴风雨》里的卡莉丝特和《一个正派女人》里的巴罗德夫人为代表,她们勇敢地打破性禁欲,在婚姻之外选择性伙伴;《德西雷的儿子》中的德西雷和《一小时的故事》中的马拉德夫人,她们是与传统道德观念进行最彻底决裂的新女性,是第三类女性的代表。
The female images in Kate Chopin’s novels can be divided into three categories as a whole: The first kind of women either get rid of the shackles of wives and mothers or go far from the search for marriage and seek the independence of economy and spirit; the second kind of women take “storm” Calvert, and Mrs. Barrod in “An Upright Woman,” they bravely break sexual abstinence and choose partners outside of marriage; Desire and " Lady Mallad in the Story of an Hour, who are the new women who broke through their traditional moral values most thoroughly and represent the third category of women.
