根据国家科委“中国拉美1996～1997年度科技合作项目”的要求,应玻利维亚政府农业国务秘书处的邀请,中国沙棘代表团于1996年11月6日～16日访问了玻利维亚.这次访问的目的,一是帮助玻利维亚解决因地处安第斯高原,受恶劣的自然、气候影响所造成的植被稀少、水土流失严重、畜牧业落后、经济贫困等问题.二是希望中国把沙棘开发利用的成熟技术和经验推广到安第斯高原周边地区,以此带动中国与玻利维亚等拉美国家之间的技术、经济合作.三是为了扩大新成立的国际沙棘研究培训中心的影响,拓展在拉美地区的业务,使沙棘开发更具有国际性.
