做泥工是学前期幼儿喜爱的活动。幼儿能在泥工活动中,把自己内心蕴藏的情感、思想表达出来。这对幼儿的身心发展极为有利。1-3岁的幼儿,正处在和绘画中的涂鸦期一样的无意图造型阶段。给幼儿一块粘土,他会反复压挤,无目的地拍打,随意改变粘土的形状,弄成圆形、球形,或不成其形。其实,幼儿并不关心制成了什么东西,他们感兴趣的是使用粘土的整个过程,只是觉得摔、握、抓粘土挺有意思。究其原因,是幼儿握在手里的粘土能给他一些刺激,能使他在玩中感到快乐;幼儿活动的目的性、有意性差;幼儿手的运动能力、肌肉动作发展还很不完善,自己无法控制手中的泥巴。
