海盐县位于杭嘉湖平原,濒临杭州湾,陆地面积507.6平方公里,海湾面积565平方公里,总人口37万,以“鱼米之乡、丝绸之府、文化之邦、旅游之地、核电之城”而著称,曾三次被评为全国综合实力百强县。2001年全县人均国内生产总值18382元,城镇居民人均可支配收入11438元,农民人均纯收入5507元。海盐县以杭州湾跨海大桥建设为契机,加快推进城市化步伐。大交通框架的确立,使海盐成为沪、杭、苏、雨城市群交通格局的中心点和区域经济发展的新亮点,区位优势十分明显,滨海城市正面临新的发展机遇。
