让刘继忠印象最为深刻的是他16岁那年。那一年,家里发生了重大变故,他的父亲去世,母亲失去了工作,妹妹年幼,他们和身体有残疾的舅舅还有体弱多病的姥姥生活在一起。父亲的过世让这个原本就不富裕的家庭遭受了沉重的打击,家里失去了主要的经济来源。刘继忠说:“当时我觉得天都塌下来了。”痛苦过后,他开始思考接下来的路该怎么走。为了这个家,他放弃学业,外出工作。在中国农业科学院特产研究所的工作之余,他挤出时间来学习没有完成的中学课程。1982年特产所领导为青年职工举办文化培训班,刘继忠通过考试,成为第一批去中等院校脱产学习的人员,圆了他的读书梦。
The most impressive impression on Liu Jizhong was his 16 years old. That year, a major accident occurred in the family. His father died, his mother lost his job, his younger sister was young, and they lived with their frail and unwell grandmothers. His father’s death has struck a heavy blow to the otherwise unaffordable family, losing the main source of income to the family. Liu Jizhong said: “At that time, I thought the sky was falling.” After suffering, he started to think about what to do next. For this home, he gave up his studies and went out to work. In his spare time at the Institute of Specialty Products at the Chinese Academy of Agricultural Sciences, he squeezed time to study the incomplete secondary school curriculum. In 1982, the specialty institute led a cultural training program for young workers. After graduation, Liu Jizhong passed the examination and became the first batch of personnel to go to full-time study in secondary institutions, ending his dream of reading.
