To compare the mRNA expression of vascular endothelial growth factor(VEGF)and its receptors(KDR and flt -1)-in the implantation and nonimplant ation sites of the human oviduct with ectopic gestatio n.Prospective obser-vational study.University -based Obstetrics and Gynecol-ogy Department.Ten women undergoin g laparoscopic salpingectomy for tubal pregnancy.The mucosal layer was isolated from the implantation and n onimplantation sites of the oviduct tissue with ectopic gestation.Semiquantitative reverse transcriptasepolymerase c hain reaction was per-formed.The differences in the mRNA e xpression of VEGF and its receptors between the implan tation and nonimplan-tation sites of the oviduct tissue.T he mRNA expression of VEGF and its receptors,both KDR and f lt -1,was sig-nificantly higher in the implantation site of the human oviduct with ectopic gestation comp ared with the nonim-plantation site.The results suggest that VEGF may be the angiogenic factor responsible for t he implantation and pla-centation of an ectopic pregnancy in the oviduct.
