汞是一种古老的常见毒物。在现代工农业生产、国防、医药卫生和科学研究等许多部门中,汞的应用范围更广。有人估计,至少有80种工业需用金属汞或汞化合物,其用途在3000种以上。据统计,全世界汞年产量1968年为9836吨,1969年为10885吨。虽然汞在某些方面的应用(如有机汞农药)已逐渐被淘汰,但汞的用量仍有逐年增长的趋势。在资本主义国家中,汞所造成的公害愈来愈严重,汞中毒事故泛滥成灾,这是腐朽没落的资本主义制度所决定的。
Mercury is an ancient and common poison. Mercury is more widely used in many sectors of modern industrial and agricultural production, defense, medicine and health and scientific research. It has been estimated that at least 80 industries require metal mercury or mercury compounds for more than 3,000 uses. According to statistics, the annual mercury production in the world was 9,836 tons in 1968 and 10,885 tons in 1969. Although the application of mercury in some aspects (such as organic mercury pesticides) has gradually been eliminated, the amount of mercury is still increasing year by year. In capitalist countries, the pollution caused by mercury is getting more and more serious, and the mercury poisoning accident flooding, which is determined by decadent decaying capitalism.
