Cirrus Logic has been sailing smoothly since it was founded in 1984: it went public in 1989 and acquired Crystal Semiconductor in 1991. Sales increased from 36.9 million in 1996 to 1 billion in 1996. However, in 1997, the company was in trouble. In the following three years, annual sales fell to 500 million US dollars. In October 1999, the magazine reported that CirrusLogic had reorganized in an attempt to revive its glory. Recently, Terry Leeder, Cirrus Logic’s vice president, told the journal in Hong Kong: “Cirrus Logic has successfully restructured and made money in the last eight consecutive quarters. Every quarter, the amount of money earned is increasing. The financial situation is good and stable. The 2000 sales are 564 million U.S. dollars, which is expected to rise to 775 million U.S. dollars in 2001.” The reorganization undertaken by Cirrus Logic changed its target market firstly; secondly, it sold semiconductor manufacturing operations and once again became a fabless semiconductor company. Prior to 1997, Cirrus Logic provided integrated circuit products for PCs, such as graphics devices and data communication devices, and now becomes a number
