The United States recently concluded a preliminary study of a new medium-range cruise missile that would have a positive impact on the military’s handling of its sea-attack and ground-attack missions in the future. This unmanned aerial vehicle capable of flying only a few feet above water or any other terrain has been exhaustively designed and evaluated by the Air Force and the Navy. The planned defense system mission review committee will meet this month to determine the future of cruise missiles. This article outlines the work accomplished by the two militaries and some important issues being considered by the Department of Defense on whether or not to continue research and development in the future.
