赵奇最近又在画一批有如从长城的砖、石之中发掘出来的、重负之下不弯腰的系列人物,这就是《皇城》。它是具象的但又象征或是概括些什么,给人以一种历史的、力量的、人的、中国的壮美感觉,当然这种美又是有些苦味的。他的中国画另有源头,一是来自生活中的父老乡亲,一是来自传统的壁画。他专注地吸收那些民间高手刻画出来的具有性格美的人物画,其构图、用线、设色和那种独特的历史感都经过他的消化,应用到他的创作中去了。他曾有一段时间在永乐宫、法海寺临摹壁画,跑遍了山西、河北,辽宁的一些著名壁画胜地,从民间到现代,这也是一条对传统的学习
