Professor Qiu Jirong (41), a Chinese scientist from the Shanghai Institute of Optics and Fine Mechanics, Chinese Academy of Sciences, joined two Japanese scientists, Professor Hirao Ichi (54) from Kyoto University in Japan and Dr. Miura Kiyuu from Kyoto University and Japan Central Glass Co., Ltd. (45), for his pioneering work in the development of new functions due to his outstanding research and achievements in the field of optical materials, especially microstructures inside femtosecond laser-sensing glass and the application of such new microstructured optical functional materials And was named winner of the 2005 Otto Schott Research Award. In the history of the Otto Schott Research Award, this is the first time that a distinguished Chinese scientist has won this award, and the winners are all Asians. It is of extraordinary significance to break the pattern that traditionally winners are covered by the scholars from Europe and the United States.
