Surgery is still the preferred treatment for rectal cancer [1] , but various traditional surgical procedures have been unsatisfactory for controlling local recurrence rates and improving survival. In 1982 Heald et al. [2] first proposed total mesorectal excision (TME). With the retention of autonomic conception and the use of staplers, TME has achieved very good governance.
