泥哇呜,回族边棱气鸣乐器,又称泥箫、泥娃娃、泥牛埙和牛角箫。流行于宁夏回族自治区,尤以海原县一带最为盛行。泥哇呜通体用黄胶泥捏制而成,其形状、大小、音孔数量和位置各不相同。大者与鹅卵近似,小者有如核桃。外形式样有椭圆形、枣形、鱼形、桃形、娃娃头形、牛头形、牛角形、蝶形和扁方形等等,不胜枚举。一般在上端正中开吹孔,在前、后开若干音孔。如核桃形泥哇呜,在前面开有1个音孔;椭圆形泥哇呜,开5个音孔(前4后1);鱼形泥哇呜前开5孔;牛头形泥哇呜上宽下尖,吹孔在上方中间,音孔多为4孔(前3后1)或6孔(前4后2);牛角形泥哇呜,音孔多为3孔(前2后1)或六孔(前5后1);蝶形泥哇呜,音孔多为4孔(前3后1);还有一种用皮革或绵纸做的泥哇呜,呈扁方形,多为3个音孔。泥哇呜虽形状、音孔有别,但都在两侧或底部设有小孔,拴系不同颜色的丝穗或彩珠作为装饰。
