On September 24, AT & T signed an agreement with Yahoo to reach customers for its WorldNet access service with powerful navigation and content resources. AT & T has previously worked with heavyweight portals such as Excite, Lycos and Infoseek. AT & T launched WorldNet in March 1996 in an attempt to compete with the successful online service AOL.
