英语是英语文化的基石,又是英语文化的载体,英语文化是通过英语语言表现出来的。语言和文化的关系密不可分的。具体的说,英语学习者对英语文化知识了解得越深刻、越细致,就越能正确的理解和使用这一语言。因此,重视大学生英美文化素养的培养有助于实现英语教学的最终目标,对我校(独立学院)英语基础薄弱的学生来说,文化的学习显得尤为重要。由此也体现了在我校开设英美文化通识教育课的必要性,文中笔者将就其必要性及课程开设的效果进行探究。
English is the cornerstone of English culture, but also a carrier of English culture, English culture is expressed through the English language. The relationship between language and culture is inseparable. Specifically, the more profound and detailed English learners’ understanding of English cultural knowledge is, the more they can correctly understand and use the language. Therefore, paying attention to cultivating British and American cultural literacy for college students helps to achieve the ultimate goal of English teaching. For the students with weak English foundation in our school (Independent College), the study of culture is especially important. This also reflects the need to set up the Anglo-American cultural general education course in our school. In this paper, I will explore the necessity and the effect of the course opening.
