Deke Erh’s Shanghai — A Bird’Eye View 2010, a photo exhibition, was mounted in the National Art Museum of China from December 27, 2010 to January 9, 2011.
Deke Erh has been engaged in photography for over 30 years. Starting his career as a journalist and editor, he established himself as the earliest freelance photographer in China. He is good at capturing and recording cultural changes and the first in the country to put forward the concept of visual documentation. As an aerial photographer, he has taken photos of Shanghai from the air since the 1980s, recording the tremendous changes of the city in the last three decades.
The over 120 photos on display were taken in 2010 around the time of the Shanghai World Expo to show Shanghai’s interpretation and practice of the concept “Better City Better Life”. The photographer presented a real, dynamic and rhythmic Shanghai transcending historical stages and embracing both oriental and occidental culture, art, technology and fashion. They also provide a lasting record of the unforgettable 2010 World Expo.
The exhibition was jointly sponsored by the CPAFFC, the China Friendship Art Exchange Association and Wenhui-Xinmin United PressGroup.
