Carbonic anhydrase (CA) is an enzyme that catalyzes the conversion of carbon dioxide to carbonic acid. In recent years, immunohistochemistry has been used to localize this enzyme and found that this enzyme is widely distributed in various epithelial cells, especially cells involved in ion transport. There have also been many reports of the location of the middle ear. By enzymatic histochemistry and immunohistochemistry, it has been demonstrated that CA is distributed in many types of cells of the cochlear and vestibular organs, suggesting that CA at these sites plays an important role in endolymph secretion. Although animal experiments on CA activity histochemistry in the endolymphatic sac (ES) have been reported, no immunohistochemical reports of CA localization in the ES have been reported.
