我把居延、敦煌、楼蘭等地所出汉简的释文翻检了一遍,将其中可以说明汉代社会性质诸简,就其文字比较完整,意义比较清楚者选出二十余简,作了些整理和考释。所选二十三简,除一简出敦煌外,余均出居延。有年代可查者,最早为太初三年(前一○二),最晚为建平五年(按即元壽元年,前二),约略可代表西汉中葉至末葉的时期。居延属张掖郡,张掖开郡於元鼎六年(前一一一),居延设县於太初三年(前一○二)。河西本匈奴昆邪、休屠王的牧地,河西开郡时匈奴人已远走,充实这一地区的是汉人的屯戍士卒和自内郡移徙去的人民,因此没有匈奴人和在匈奴之前的月氏人所留下的社会影
