Objective: To study the protective effects of total polyphenols from Rhodiola sachalinensis on hyperglycemia in type 2 diabetic rats induced by streptozotocin (STZ). Methods: Thirty-six rats were divided into 6 groups: normal control (isosceles normal saline), model (isosceles normal saline), metformin (0.3g.kg-1) and Rhodiola rosea total polyphenol , Low dose (100, 50, 25g.kg-1) group, ig administration, once daily for 21 days. After the last administration of 12h, the tail vein blood and blood glucose were measured, after fasting for 18h, the activity of the superoxide dismutase (SOD) and the content of malondialdehyde (MDA) in the mitochondria of the pancreas were measured, Hypoglycemic effect. Results: The blood glucose of model group was significantly higher than that of normal control group (P <0.01). Compared with model group, the blood glucose of high, middle and low dose alpine Rhodiola total polyphenols group was significantly lower (P <0.01) The middle dose group and metformin group no significant difference. Compared with normal control group, the content of MDA in pancreatic mitochondria of model group was significantly increased (P <0.01) and SOD activity was significantly decreased (P <0.01). Compared with model group, total polyphenols of Rhodiola rosea high, The content of MDA in low dose group was significantly lower (P <0.01) and SOD activity was significantly higher (P <0.01). CONCLUSION: The total polyphenol of Rhodiola rosea has a good hypoglycemic effect, and its mechanism is likely to be the antioxidant activity of polyphenols in Rhodiola.
