Salivary gland pleomorphic adenoma is a common tumor, although it is benign, but the recurrence rate after surgery is 3.6 to 31.7%. The authors treated 524 cases of pleomorphic adenomas in the past 10 years, including 21 cases of recurrent tumors, 14 cases of females, and 7 cases of males, aged 18 to 76 years. There were 14 cases of recurrence, 5 cases of 2 cases, 1 case of 3 cases, and 1 case of 4 cases. The recurrent tumors were located in the submandibular gland in 3 cases, 1 in the cheeks and in the sacrum. Emphasis was placed on the analysis of 16 cases of recurrent tumors of the parotid gland. The period of recurrence after surgery was the shortest period of several months, up to 15 years. All have multiple nodular recurrences. The size of the nodule (0.3 to 4.0 cm in diameter) is not related to the recurrence period; most recurrent nodules are mucinous.
