水田人主要居住在凉山彝族自治州安宁河流域,西昌市、喜德县、冕宁县的平坝地区。“水田”是他称。山区彝族称水田人为mu33hi44su33“木黑人”。他们和汉族杂居,种水田,着汉装,彝汉语均通,死后棺葬,按汉俗辈分字取名记家谱。过去很少与山区彝族通婚。2003年8月我们专程到凉山地区对彝族水田话进行专题田野调查。此次调查点分为两处:冕宁县漫水湾和喜德县冕山镇。冕宁县迥龙、泸沽、河边,西昌市礼州、月华,喜德县冕山、拉克一带都有水田人居住。关于彝族水田人的来历有多种说法。其一是说过去水田人是高山彝族,因为
