This article describes the main objectives of the third generation mobile communication system (3G); elaborates the work progress of the ITU-TG8-1 task force and the three major communication interest groups in the field of 3G; compares the three typical schemes for achieving 3G; Some Suggestions on Participating in International 3G Development.
