农四师六十三团场,位于霍城县西部的塔克尔穆库尔沙漠腹地。总面积四十三万亩,其中耕地五万三千亩,垦区内沙丘林立,沟壑交错,土壤瘠薄。沙砾土占95％,轻壤土仅占5％。这里风多干旱,用水困难,八级以上的害风平均每年在十次以上,年降水量只有132—141毫米,而蒸发量高达2000毫米,为降水量的十四点七倍,年引水量虽有5450万立方,但因流程长,蒸发渗漏,利用率仅有46.2％。1960年建场以来,军垦战士就在这艰苦环境下开荒造田,屯垦创业。
