中西方在亲属称谓上差别巨大,中国的复杂,西方的较简略,中国的很多称谓在西方语言里根本没有。在西方,爷爷、奶奶的称呼与外公、外婆共用,都叫grandfather(grandpa)和grandmothe(rgrandma);与父母同辈的亲戚只有两个称呼,男性为uncle,女性为aunt,分别代表了伯、叔、舅,姑、姨。平辈的旁系亲属称呼,在汉语里有堂(表)兄弟姐妹8个专门称谓语,而英语就只有一个cousin笼统称之。不仅长幼甚至连性别也不加区分。而且西方也不太讲究辈分高低,除
There is a huge difference between the kinship terms in China and the West. The complexities of China, the simpler aspects of the West and the many appellations in China simply do not exist in the West.
