2006年12月23日,湖南省“见义勇为先进个人”表彰大会在长沙隆重召开,28名英模受到表彰。其中,湘西自治州龙山县石羔镇中心小学土家族教师李成贵,成为湖南省教育战线唯一获此殊荣的英模,荣立一等功。湖南省委常委、省政法委书记李江同志在表彰会上亲自为其颁奖。2005年3月11日,李成贵为保护学校的电脑与3名盗贼浴血搏斗,在头中铁棒、脸上和手上被砍数刀、身负重伤的情况下仍奋力擒凶,使学校价值13.98万元的电脑丝毫未损。
