1994年6月6日,经国务院批准,四川省邛崃县撤县设市.这标志着素有“天府南来第一州”之称的邛崃市又翻开了历史崭新的一页.邛崃.古称临邛,又名邛州,历史悠久,文化灿烂,古为蜀国辖域,治地临近邛族聚居区而称临邛,公元前316年秦灭蜀后置县筑城.梁末(公元550年)改临邛县为邛州.民国二年(1913年)始称邛崃县.新中国成立后,邛崃先后隶属眉山、温江专署.1983年5月划归成都市管辖.这里曾哺育出西汉哲学家严君平、《易经》学者胡安、语言学家林闾,三国时期蜀国淬火大师蒲元,五代后蜀画
