In the ancient China, there was a young man called Zhu Pingman. He wanted to learn some special skills that no others knew of. He sold all his assets and wares to collect up to 50 kilograms of silver ingots, and went to a remote place to learn the certain skills.
After going through many hardships, he found a man called Zhi Liyi. He claimed to be a master of killing dragons and Zhu Pingman believed that this was the unique skill he desired for long. He spent a lot of time and efforts learning this skill in the next three years before ending his “apprenticeship as a dragon killer”.
He was very glad when Zhi Liyi told him that he had nothing to teach him. He went home proudly and complacently. His townsmen were very curious about what he had learnt in the past three years. He vehemently began to talk about his skills of killing dragons and showed his townsmen how to press the dragon’s head, how to stamp on the dragon’s tail and how to slice its belly open.
When he finished, he excitedly waited for others’ cheers and congratulations. However, one of his townsmen asked where he could find a dragon to kill and what a dragon looks like, he could not find out an answer. People then laughed at him, saying that “learning of skills is to do something useful. If what you learned is of no use, it will be worth nothing even though you have an expertise at this.”
Zhu Pingman suddenly realized that there were no dragons at all in this world. The skills of killing dragons, which he spent a lot of time and money on, had no place for using.
