宋建安余氏本《列女传》前七卷每传记后都有一颂,共104颂,宋代改编《列女传》版本前,文献著录颂作者为刘歆,而在此后,这些颂被普遍看作刘向的作品。结合《列女颂》文献著录、征引及具体的创作背景,《列女颂》作者应为刘歆。《列女颂》是汉代看图作颂风气下的产物,宋人以《列女颂》为依据划分《续列女传》的作法是不周密的。
