In the mid-Atlantic, the six harsh winters of the past eight years undermined the growth of camellia. As the main winter temperatures in our region, temperatures below 10 ° F for December, January and February recorded by the American Society for the Introduction of Plants at Glenn Dale MD in 1976-1984 (Table 1 ). However, it was far more common to destroy Camellia sinensis and many other broadleaf evergreens in the cold of Christmas 1983, with much of the North of Florida in the South. The sudden onset of strong winds and the sudden drop in temperature at Christmas have led to slight pre-conditioning of many plants, but the eastern United States has no special winter in the recent cold so the cold climate curve is completely common in the northern hemisphere.
