一、短褐舍其锦绣,邻有短褐而欲窃之。课文未注,教参照字解为“粗布短袄。”“短褐”不是偏正词组,而是并列关系。“短”通“裋”(shù)“褐”本身含“短”义,无需再用“短”修饰。“裋”是粗布衣服,“褐”是粗毛或粗麻织的短衣。同是膝盖以上的短衣,都为贫者所服,只是质地稍异。《汉书·贡禹传》:“妻子糠豆不赡,裋褐不完”。颜师古注:“短者,谓僮竖所著布长襦也;褐,毛布之衣也”。《史记·秦始皇本纪》“夫寒者利裋褐,而饥者甘糟糠”。用“裋”而不用“短”。“短”、“裋”皆从“豆”得声,同属上古“侯”部,故得通假。
