吉林市歌舞团的前身是1943年诞生的八路军翼东军区坚兵剧社,1947年整编为解放军四十六军文工团,1958年转为地方,易名为吉林市歌舞团。现有演职员234人。几年来,面对着包袱沉重、外债缠身、业务骨干短缺、人才外流、演出市场疲软等困难的挑战,剧团在坚持文艺的“二为”方向,把社会效益放在首位的前提下,遵循艺术自身发展规律的要求,解放思想,创新经营,较成功地探索出了一条市场经济条件下国办艺术表演团体的生存和发展之路。几年来,演出场次和演出收入一年好过一年。1998年演出165场,收入92万元;1999年演出208场,收入158万元;2000年演出278场,收入205万元;今年仅上半年演出就已达113场,收入近130万元。在这几年里,吉林市歌舞团长期参加中央电视台春节联欢
