演员的艺术修养是很重要的,它对演员艺术生命的发展、兴衰,有着特殊的意义。多方面的生活情趣,如涉猎琴棋书画,培养对花乌虫鱼的兴趣,训练对生活中美的感受等等,都有助于演员的艺术修养的提高。当然,最主要的则应该是不断提高自身的文学修养,才能使演员,尤其是青年演员,在艺术世界里不断前进,为繁荣今天的戏剧事业贡献力量。在中国古代典籍里,类似的记载是很多的,以“纪南北诸伶”而保存了一代文献的《青楼集》(元夏庭芝著)中,就有不少当时元杂剧演员多方面生活情趣
