郭老学识渊博、论著浩瀚,他在众多方面的巨大成就,在我国历史上是罕见的。他亲手动笔参与把自己创作的历史剧进行再创作改编移植成戏曲,即为河北邯郸东风剧团改编的豫剧《武则天》,是河北以至全国剧坛的一件值得珍视的大事。豫剧《武则天》无论从编、导、演,还是音乐唱腔、舞台美术、服装设计等各方面,都倾注着郭老的心血。历史剧《武则天》话剧本,是郭老1960年1月10日写成的初稿。这年的3月16日,初稿刚刚写成后不久,郭老便在他的家里接见了我团部分同志。他应我们的请求,亲手把剧本交给我们改编移植成豫剧,让
