转型期电影是对转型期中国社会特定情境、特有文化心态的独白与发言。转型期的中国不但经历着政治社会向经济社会的转化，也经历着农业文明向工业文明的转化，转型期电影作为在这种特定场合发育成长的艺术必然以其特有的方式折射出社会处于农业文明与工业文明之交的矛盾心态二同时，无论在内容与形式上都显出西方现代文化、后现代文化对转型期艺术的渗入。在转型期电影中，对农业文明的礼赞与贬斥是一个表述的重心。随着工业文明日渐迫近的脚步，西方工业文明、后工业文明下发展起来的现代文化、后现代文化对中国文化的渗入也成为电影表述的另一个重心。
