我市地处闽南三角区,是天然的大温室,每年秋冬都有大量蔬菜(包莱、洋葱和花菜)北调.为了增加果菜类品种,提高市场竞争能力,我所于1986～1987年秋冬进行露地冬季黄瓜栽培试验.从12个黄瓜品种中筛选出适合冬季栽培的优良品种——津杂1号.10月上旬播种,使用风障等简易设施,一般能够获得亩产2000公斤的冬黄瓜.
