The high-power laser experimental device, named ’SG’, consists of two beams of 800 kJ energy per pulse with a pulse width of 1 nanosecond and a total output power of 10 to 12 watts. The diameter of the beam is 200 mm and is focused by a lens to 50 μm. The power density is 10-17 watts per square centimeter, and irradiates the substance with a high temperature of 10 million degrees and an ultrahigh pressure of tens of millions of atmospheres on the surface. The working substance used for the laser is a neodymium-doped phosphate glass, with a laser wavelength of 1.053 microns. This experimental device was basically completed in July 1985.
