Japan has discovered a new type of tumor necrosis factor (TNF). More than half of patients with advanced cancer have proved that the new TNF is ineffective in chemotherapy and radiotherapy. TNF is a protein secreted by blood macrophages after being stimulated by foreign substances. Because of its unique ability to attack cancer cells, the use of TNF for cancer has received much attention in recent years. However, almost no TNF is produced in humans. For this reason, clinical trials using genetically engineered TNF are now required. However, the disadvantages of TNF are serious adverse effects such as fever and lower blood pressure.
