Three major values of Wen Xin ixao Long are recognized by the article: a)lt is the greatest work of classical Chinese literary theory; b)It is of “mixed” type, and is the crowning work of literary theory in the ancient world; c)It is the quintessential representative of Confucian literary theory, and embodies the cul-tural psyche of the Chinese nation.At present, the comparative research of Wen Xin Dlao Long is furthering to greater depth, but there exist some questionable views, especially ln the following aspects: 1)That the figurative thinking theory in this work is superior to classical Western aesthetic theory; 2)That Liu Xie propounds “mimesis theory”; 3)That Liu Xie proposes the combination of romanticism with realism; 4)Concerning l,iu Xie vs. Balzac.
