八角是我区特有的经济树种,其果实是我国人民所喜欢的日常调味香料,枝叶和果实蒸出的油称茴油,茴油在工业和医药上都有用途.而八角金花虫是八角树的一种食叶性害虫,在我区凭祥、德保和上林等地均有发生为害,它的幼虫和成虫咬食八角树的叶子和幼芽、嫩枝及新梢.八角树受害后,轻者影响生长,当年不能开花结实,造成果实歉收,茴油减产,重者整株八角树枯死.为了确保八角树健康地生长,我们曾于1974-1975年,对此虫进行了初步研究.现将有关材料整理于下,供参考.
