V. Timing Errors The standard epoch reference time used for laser ranging is UTC (BIH) or its approximate UTC (USNO) (Coordinated Universal Time broadcast by the U.S. Navy’s Observatory). The retention accuracy of epochs depends on the station and should be provided by the stations at each site of work. In fact, all station clocks are regularly calibrated with a portable clock and monitored at least once daily using LORAN, GPS, TV receiver, very low frequency or other broadcast sources.
