In the United States and Mexico, the Mexican boll elephant Antho-noms grandis Boheman is one of the major pests of cotton. In recent years, much attention has been drawn to its taxonomic and biogeographical studies, not only because of the serious threat cotton boll weevils pose to cotton production in its area of distribution, but also to its expansion in other areas (Table 1). As early as the 1890s, when the United States found its first damage, the origin and distribution of it became a very important topic. This article summarizes a large number of previous work, combined with the latest research on the classification of pests and their relationship to host plants
