Monocytes play an important role in anti-parasite immunity. Human peripheral blood mononuclear cells consist of two subsets of CD14 ++ CD16- and CD14 + CD16. Toxoplasma genotypes can be divided into Ⅰ, Ⅱ and Ⅲ type, Toxoplasma gondii different genotypes can cause activation of different monocytes and monocytes can induce phenotypic changes and release of cytokines. This article provides a brief overview of the possible relationship between the monocyte phenotype and the genotype of Toxoplasma gondii.
