一、形成武陵奇石的地质地貌简述武陵山脉在漫长的地质年代中,历经多次构造运动。由于构造运动的复杂性、多样性及多期性,使山地岩石发生多种类型的变形,而形成各种构造形式。武陵山脉和临近的湘西雪峰山脉,与湖南其他地区一样,在前震旦纪时,处于地槽发展阶段,普遍为海水淹没。已知最古老的地层为冷家溪群,以浅变质的砂岩泥岩为主,夹火山岩,厚逾万米,具复理石建造特点,广泛出露于湖北及湘西地区。武陵山脉雄踞常德地区的西北角,澧水贯穿全境。雪峰山脉地势高峻,南北延伸三百多公里,为资水和沅水的分水岭。在这两大山脉境内,从地貌上看,层峦迭峰,山岭连绵,系云贵及鄂西高原的延伸部分。如美丽的索溪峪溶洞、张家界、天子山的峰林怪石。
