我们食用的桃子,其花多是鲜艳美丽的单瓣花,而且一般是一个花芽开出一朵花,植物学上将它描述为单花、单心皮。但也有例外。春季,桃花花芽开始膨大时,找出一些稍肥大的花芽,小心剥去外面的鳞片,便可见到两个各呈半球状紧靠在一起的孪生花蕾(图1),这个花蕾由各自的短花梗同着生在一个基座上,两个花蕾都能开出鲜艳的花朵,我们暂把它称做桃花的单芽双花现象,其花朵仍属单花、单心皮。只是这种情况在桃属植物中占的比例很少。
