the last I checked: used to introduce a piece of information that is the most recent that you have on a particular subject(据我所知的最新消息)。例如:

② But this office job is a different kettle of fish. 这份可是写字楼的文职工作,有天渊之别。
a different kettle of fish: a completely different situation or person from the one previously mentioned(另一码事;截然不同的人或事)。例如:

③ My shoes are beyond ridiculous. 我的鞋子难穿得离谱。
beyond + adj.: sth. is so extreme in some way that it cannot be believed(程度难以置信)。例如:

What’s that got to do with sth.? = How is that related to sth.?

⑤ I just have no idea how to strike a balance. 我就是不晓得该怎么两者兼顾。
strike a balance: to find a satisfactory compromise between two extremes(找到折中办法,取得平衡)。例如:
